Why DNS failures are invisible to HTTP monitors
Standard HTTP monitoring tools resolve your domain to an IP address when the check is first configured, then typically cache that result. This means they continue checking the IP address even after DNS has changed or stopped resolving. A dedicated DNS check queries the nameserver fresh on every cycle, giving you accurate visibility into DNS health independent of the cached results other monitoring tools use.
When DNS monitoring matters most
After a domain renewal: confirm your registrar did not accidentally let DNS lapse. After a hosting migration: confirm DNS has propagated to the new IP globally, not just from your local resolver. After a CDN switch: confirm the CNAME is pointing to the new provider. After any nameserver change: confirm the delegation is working and the new nameservers are authoritative.
