How to Set Up a Status Page in Under 5 Minutes

A step-by-step guide to creating a hosted status page with uptime monitoring using VP Watchtower — no code, no configuration, no billing required.

A status page is a public URL showing whether your services are up or down. Clients check it during incidents to understand what is happening without flooding your inbox. Setting one up used to take hours of server configuration. With VP Watchtower you can do it in under five minutes.

Step 1: Create your account

Go to watchtower.vpnetworks.co.uk and click "Create your page". Sign in with your email — we send you a magic link, no password required. Once signed in you are taken to your dashboard.

Step 2: Name your status page

Choose a slug for your public URL — this becomes watchtower.vpnetworks.co.uk/your-slug. Pick something descriptive like your company name or project name. Add a title and optional description that your clients will see on the public page.

Step 3: Add your services

Add up to 8 services to monitor. For each one, choose the check type: HTTP for websites and APIs, TCP for custom ports, DNS for domain resolution, SSL for certificate expiry, or SEO for PageSpeed and meta tag monitoring. Enter the hostname or URL, name the service, and save it. Monitoring begins immediately.

Step 4: Share your status page

Your public status page is live at your slug URL. Share it with clients, add it to your website footer, include it in incident communications, or link to it in your email signature. The page shows each service with its current status and a 24-check history bar — green for up, amber for degraded, red for down.

What happens after 7 days

You will receive an email reminder 24 hours before your page expires. After 7 days the page and all its check data is automatically deleted. Your slug enters a 7-day cool-off period before anyone else can claim it. If you want to keep monitoring beyond the showcase window, get in touch with VantagePoint Networks — we build bespoke monitoring solutions for businesses that need permanent uptime visibility.
